Recently I went on a trip to capture a few interiors in California and got to travel up the north coast while there. I brought an old 35mm film camera from the 80s that belonged to my late grandfather and stopped along the winding drive, capturing the little details + sweeping scenes along the way. Here are a few of my favorites, along with some that are joining the print shop permanently. The red infused shot is actually a light leak that turned into something I love.
https://sanslicencecasino.com came to mind while reading this, not because of gambling but because photography and casino games both reward accepting unpredictable outcomes, and the accidental red flare in one frame is a perfect example. The detail about carrying a late grandfather’s 80s 35mm along the north coast stuck with me most, since using older gear often forces a slower pace that a phone camera doesn’t. I’ve had expired film throw odd colors into plain scenes, and those mistakes usually become the frames I keep.
